So, you think you have explored your HTC One? Try these tips and tricks we have compiled. I’m sure there is at least one that you’re not aware of. Here they are:

Background in SMS
We all know that you can change your desktop background but did you know that you can change the theme and background of your messaging app? There are color schemes available for message bubble and texture. Open message app > menu > settings > general > personalize

Switch toggles shortcut
Toggles are now available on the 4.2.2 update, this is a very useful addition and one of my personal favorites. You can easily open toggles by using two finger swipe from the notification bar.

Phonebook search by swipe
Do you have hundreds or thousands of people on you phonebook? Well you can search phonebook entries by letters using two finger swipe downwards or upwards.

HTC One Tips and Tricks

SMS secure box and block
Hiding messages that you don’t want others to accidentally read is easy with secure box. Long press a thread of messages and select “move to secure box” from popup. Now you have another layer of protection on your sensitive messages. If you constantly receive spam text messages, you can move and assign them to block so that next time you won’t be bothered by these spammers again.

Unset blinkfeed as homescreen
I love the blinkfeed feature in HTC one. Some people don’t want this and you might be one of them. If you don’t want to see the blinkfeed when you press home button you can set other screen panel as homescreen.

Task list/Recent apps
HTC one has only two capacitive buttons that’s why the task list can be a bit tricky to find. This can be launched by double tapping the home screen button and the last 9 running apps will be available to close or resume. Tap to resume and swipe up to close.

Google Now
One of the reasons why I love android is because of Google Now. The info cards are very neat and nicely presented. You can launch Google Now by swiping upwards from home button.

Self diagnostic tests
Dial *#*#3424#*#* to run self diagnostic tests. You can self check LED, camera, vibrator, flash, buttons, speakers and many others. This is a very handy self diagnostic tool. You don’t need this really in your day to day use, but it’s nice to check that everything is working as it should be every once in a while.

Use USB OTG to save space and transfer files
There might be new ways to transfer and save files now over the cloud but some of us still want to use flash drives specially when we don’t have internet connection. HTC one supports USB on the go and we can use this to connect a flash drive. You won’t have to save gigabytes of videos in your internal storage you can have your flash disk as external drive.

Turn on multitouch
Do you need you use 3 or more touch points but you’ve found out that the third finger is not detected? Don’t worry, your phone is not broken. You can turn this on by unticking the HTC gestures check box.

Screenshot shortcut
Press and hold power button + vol down for 1-2sec at the same time to take screen captures. Useful if you are doing some tutorial like what I am doing now.

4G all the time
Force your signal to 4G. Go to hidden menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and set preferred network type to 4G Only. Take note that you might not be able to send and receive SMS and calls. Now why do you want to lock your network to 4G? For faster browsing and internet connection.

Screen mirroring
4.7 inch isn’t good for you? How about 42 inches? Mirror you phone’s desktop to your HDTV by using MHL adapter or go wireless if you have miracast dongle or miracast enabled TV.

NFC/Android beam
NFC also known as android beam is a feature that I rarely use. Maybe because not all my devices support this yet including iPhones, boo! A nice to have feature and very convenient way to share files and stuff just by placing the phone’s backs against each other.

Remote control
The HTC One has an IR blaster and can be used to control your TV, Media players or any other appliances that uses a remote controller. You just need to select what brand your TV is, then you’re good to go!
