I was never a fan of Macintosh before, maybe because I was a Windows user since ‘95. But most people are more interested and likely to use Mac nowadays. Curious on the buzz about Mac I installed iAtkos L2 on my PC, the easiest way to try MAC OSX.

There are other methods available, but to save myself a lot of time I used iAtkos instead because the installer is already bootable.

What do you need to do before you install?

  1. Check your hardware – Are you using an Intel processor? What motherboard, videocard? Etc. If you are have an Intel processor and a compatible motherboard there is a good chance that it will work. Check hardware compatibility list here [link]
  2. Read – go to hackintosh forums and websites and read! If this is your first time expect your whole weekend trying to fix problems and reinstallations.
  3. Time and Patience – a lot. If you don’t have these two then don’t start this project.
  4. Exta hardisk – It’s best to install on a separate hard disk. Or if you are ready to reformat your existing harddrive it’s up to you.
  5. Basic knowledge in installing OS. If you have installed windows, linux or any other OS then you’re fine.
  6. And of course the installer.

What instructions I used to install?

I will not be duplicating any good installation procedures here, so I will provide links to install notes and read me files that I used. Seriously it’s easy if your hardware is compatible.

Installed with the following hardware

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte G41M-Combo
  • GPU: Palit GeForce GT 240 – 1GB DDR3
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo 2.8 Ghz
  • Soundcard: built-in
  • Wifi: CDR-king Wifi USB
  • Keyboard: Logitech k750 wireless keyboard

Installation Method

  • Chameleon 2.0 RC5
  • NVEnabler
  • Built-in Ethernet
  • FakeSMC
  • VoodooHDA
  • And all selected by default except for GraphicsEnabler

 Kext Used

  • AtherosL1cEthernet.kext
  • RTL8187L

Everything is working. I can easily connect to Wi-Fi using CDR-king LO series receiver with kernel extensions above. I’ve been testing it for a month now and everything is running smoothly.

This test definitely made me decide to buy a real Mac soon!
