You must all be hearing from the news lately about the change of the zodiac number from 12 to 13 this 2011 and the inclusion of Ophiuchus (the serpent holder) in the astrological picture. This sentiment for the zodiac is similar when the astronomers declared that Pluto is no longer a planet in 2006, but a “dwarf planet” instead. It was then referred to as a plutoid and was removed from school textbooks.

After the planets, now the zodiacs were altered because of the change of tilt of the Earth’s movement. According to astrologists, there is a thirteenth zodiac and was removed by Babylonians leaving only 12 zodiacs in place. According to research, Ophiuchus is the only sign that was associated with a real person named Imhotep. The Greeks called him Asclepius, known for his knowledge in medicine and learned the secret of keeping death away from mortals upon seeing a serpent bringing another healing herbs. When Zeus found out about it, he killed Asclepius with a bolt of lightning to prevent humans from being immortal. Zeus later on placed his image in the heavens as reminder of his good works. If you’re familiar with the medicine symbol Caduceus (snake winding around a rod), well they say it was based on the zodiac Ophiuchus.
