Why you should get a Personal Indemnity Insurance

Written by Brynes Page on July 5th, 2010

In this day and age, you can be sued for a multitude of reasons – ranging from the viable reasons for getting sued (like you causing damage to someone else, whether intentionally or not) to the outright mundane (like Benny the Bull getting sued for a high-five gone wrong). Because of this, it is indeed worth your while to get personal indemnity insurance to make sure that you are financially secure in case you encounter a lawsuit of sorts.

By definition, indemnity insurance is basically just insurance that protects you from situations wherein you may need to pay a sum as compensation to a person for a particular loss suffered. Take note that it is entirely possible that you may not even be the cause of the said injury or loss. As long as another person can legally prove that you owe him or her indemnity, then you will be required to pay. Indemnity can come in the form of cash payments, repairs, replacement of any kind, or reinstatement. In whatever case, any situation that will require you to pay indemnity toward another person will be best met if you have goodindemnity insurance, which is why it is important for you to make sure that you are covered.

Of course, there are other types of indemnity insurance, such as professional indemnity insurance, which is meant to protect a policy holder who might have caused any damage or loss to a client. A typical example of coverage that comes with this type of insurance is errors and omissions coverage, which protects a professional for any mistakes in legal paperwork or documents that could entitle the client to sue.

Another type of indemnity insurance is medical indemnity insurance or medical malpractice insurance. This could be called a more specific type of professional indemnity insurance, in that it protects doctors or other medical professionals from mistakes that they might have made during surgery or even situations where they make an error in prescribing medicine or any other issues that may make a medical professional liable to their client.

The point is to make sure that you are financially protected, because the last thing you probably want is to have to go through financial trouble paying for indemnity. Personal indemnity insurance should help you in case the next time you do a fist bump with someone causes them to have a heart attack. Hey… you never know. After all, stranger things have happened..
