Before you look for heartburn relief , make sure that you what you’re really suffering from is heartburn. If you’re feeling something wrong in your heart, it’s definitely not heartburn because it doesn’t have anything to do with your heart at all, evenhough the pain of heartburn is felt in the chest. It is caused by stomach acid that washes up into the esophagus. It’s my goal to give you not just information on natural heartburn relief but also on heartburn itself through this very short article.
What really is heartburn
Heartburn is a painful condition that involves the upper digestive system. The pain usually radiates from the central chest region, not that heart itself. This is the reason sufferers of heartburn confuse it with heart attack. Heartburn is the result of the acids in your stomach reacting strongly to certain food during the digestion process. It is normally felt after a meal of acidic or fat-laden foods, drinking alcohol, smoking, eating chocolate or taking aspirin.
What causes heartburn?
Heartburn occurs for a number of reasons when stomach acid refluxes or backs up into the esophagus.
*Eating large meals shorly before bedtime.
*Smoking
* The valve that keeps your stomach acid in your stomach is weakened and doesn’t do its function.
*Taking certain medications
* Too much stress
* Foods: peppermint, alcohol, cofee, fried and fatty foods, chocolate and sugar.
* Hiatal hernia* Pressure on the stomach which includes, obesity, bending over frequently, tight clothes and lifting.
What are the symptons of heartburn
Symptons of hearburn includes a “burning sensation” that runs from the stomach up to the mouth, you may also feel an acidic taste in your mouth. Other symptons are vomiting, difficulty swallowing and nausea.
Pain generally does not radiate to the shoulders, neck, or arms and is rarely accompanied by a cold sweat. You may also feel food “sticking in the middle of your chest or throat.
Are you now pretty sure that what you’re suffering from is heartburn? If you are, below are the suggested prevention and relief for heartburn.
* Don’t eat like there’s no tomorrow. Eat slowly.
* Raise the head of your bed several inches to help prevent reflux during the night.
* Quit smoking.
* Don’t wear tight clothes as they tend to squeeze your midseection and eventullay push your stomach contents upward.
* Don’t try to sleep when your stomach is full. Try to eat 3 hours before going to bed to give enough time for acid levels to decrease before sleeping.
* Try not to eat foods that trigger heartburn – You already know why right?
* Drink warm liquids as they may dilute or flush out stomach acid.
* Chewing gum may simulate the production of saliva which dilutes stomach acid.
If you’ve already done the things above but heartburn still keeps on attacking. It’s better to seek professional advice from a doctor and ask for heartburn relief .
