Well basically Sun, Smart, and Globe wireless broadband all have issues of being laggy, DCing, Slow SOBs..

1.) If you want stable connection, go get Skybroadband & MyDSL instead. Both have their own issues as well but at least you’re not DC’ed as much anymore.

2.) If you’re not happy with the speed, spend more! Don’t be b!tch fitting for slow connection when you’re only paying (let’s say) P350 a month.

Good points:
1. Connection is very reliable. (dalawang beses pa lang akong naka-experience ng napakabagal na browsing speeds so far in my almost 8 months of subscription)
2. Very reliable when it comes to browsing. (very rare browsing errors [e.g. Request Time Out, Connection Reset] and have never experienced automatic disconnection so far)
3. Download speeds are good enough on some file sharing sites (like Fileserve, Filesonic).
4. No data capping (In Globe Tattoo prepaid, you’re data volume allowance is limited to 800MB but with Sun, there’s no data cap… but Sun has speed cap, though).

Bad points:
1. Bad in torrent downloads. (almost entire day, I usually get 10kBps – 48kBps on a well-seeded torrent according to the numbers shown on Bittorrent below its UI but I get around 200-270kBps torrent download speeds usually around 1AM-6:30AM on a well-seeded torrent.)

2. Consistent 2Mbps connection is usually available around 1AM-6AM only. (the rest of the day, usually nag-aaverage yung connection ko to 700kbps. I also noticed na kapag lagpas 6AM na, I get full speed 2Mbps connection only up to around 75-79MB file download. Siguro nagka-cap sila ng speed after a certain megabytes of download and based on my observation, after around 75-79MB, nagki-kick in na yung daily capping nila).

3. Slow in streaming Youtube videos (Sa napapansin ko, umaabot lang ako ng 2Mbps speed sa Youtube kapag around 1AM-6AM lang. Kapag any given time of the day na, at first nag-rarange ang speed nya around 300kbps-1.2Mbps. Pero kapag linubos-lubos mo talaga ang panonood ng mga videos sa Youtube, napapansin ko na nag-aaverage na lang ang speed ko to 256kbps. Take note, kilobits yan ha, hindi kiloBytes. So di talaga masasatisfy ang mga heavy Youtube users nito. Kasi sa tingin ko kina-cap ka nila to 256kbps after certain megabytes sa Youtube.)

4. Images on websites are compressed.

Overall, I’m still satisfied with my Sun Broadband Plan 799. Kasi kahit naman mabagal sya sa Youtube, in fairness, always naman kaming merong connection. As in never ko pa talagang na-experience yung di ako maka-konek or wala talagang internet. Yung na-describe ko sa number 1 sa “Good points” sa taas, meron pa rin naman kaming internet nung dalawang beses na nabanggit ko. It’s just that, sobrang bagal nung time na yun. And honestly din, never pa akong na-disappoint sa responsiveness ng connection ko when it comes to browsing. Kung meron man, yun lang mga time na merong nagda-download sa torrent ko and at the same time I am browsing. Kasi sa napapansin ko, kapag nagto-torrent ako, halos di ako nakaka-browse. Siguro nakakain ng torrent ang kalahatan ng bandwidth ko kaya siguro ganon. So I decided to exit Bittorrent at ayon, problem solved.

Overall, no plans of terminating this. Balak ko pa din bumili ng Encore 3G Mobile Broadband Router sa CDRKing.

I tried uploading a picture(~150kb) on my photobucket account and it would not even upload. Sayang lang talaga sa pera. I am now looking for alternative ISPs.
