Philippine Photography is growing

Written by scant on June 16th, 2009

I remember my highschool times (not to long ago ok?) when I would type in the phrase ” photography philippines ” in Google and it would pull up irrelevant and minimal results. Now if you search that term again, it will give you lots of relevant returns, a sign that Philippine Photography is growing.

I’ve also noticed that the numbers of amateur photographers are significantly increasing, just go to a high end mall like the one in Eastwood or Greenbelt and it’s almost impossible not to see a single soul who is carrying a SLR camera and taking pictures. What amazes me is that most of them are teenagers! Thanks to Digital cameras, they don’t have to worry about buying films which I think was somehow the reason Philippine Photography has yet to reach it’s maximum potential.

Just last year in my office, they formed a Digital Photography club. I really wanted to join but I don’t have my own SLR yet, I just use my cellphone to take pictures so I really can’t see myself joining the club and getting into Digital photograply yet. But when the time comes, I’ll probably take a Wedding Photography lesson because I believe it’s very lucrative. A friend of mine in the office says he takes wedding gigs for 10k per wedding (2 day work) so that’s not bad.

Well I really hope that photography in the Philippines will continue to grow, why? so that we will have many professional photographers and you know the law of supply and demand. Hehe. Maybe the 10k per session will drop by 50 percent by the time I’m getting married. lol. Honestly, I just thought that Filipino Photography is full of talent and we can dominate the international photography scene if we will be given the chance.

So if you’re an amateur photographer, keep up the good work and practice hard, who knows, you might be the next idol in the Philippine Digital Photography. :)
